Classics rule Britannia...
Well the new season started with a shock - the Classics were a goal down within 25 seconds of the kick-off, probably the fastest goal ever conceded by the team. The damage came when Pat O’Krane was responsible for a giveaway in midfield which led to the opposition chipping Jason Clegg in his first shot of the year. Poor Clegg had hardly got his gloves on and was suffering with backache after picking the ball out of the net. After 10 mins Lorenzo Arcari lashed a shot that was unlucky to go off the wrong side of the post. Coach Butler got frustrated after 20 mins and made some brilliant changes leading to three goals in seven minutes of football heaven. It started with a nice cross from O’Krane that ended up in the back of the net from a header by Jerry Szakun. Minutes later Macklin sent a great through ball to Alan Massender who hit a low screamer to make it 2-1. Macklin then stripped the ball away from a poor pass by the keeper and cheekily chipped it into the back of the net, thereby not wasting extra rolls of the ball. The half ended with a 3-1 lead to the visitors.
In the second half, Larry Thorlakson, making his third debut for the team, was the first player to be warned by the referee, although he escaped adding to his yellow card total. The final goal came when Macklin slipped the ball through for Szakun who put away his second goal of the game in a confident manner.
